Holiday season is quickly approaching, and naturally our thoughts turn towards big delicious meals, the upcoming holidays, and gifts. Unfortunately, with the holiday season also comes stress and budget concerns. This year, make sure to brush up on tips and tricks to make your shopping trip a little easier, so that you can spend more time enjoying the holidays and less time worrying about them. Whether you prefer to shop at outlet stores, thrift stores, or the mall, these smart shopping tips will help you save time, money, and sanity.
1. Shopping tips for women.
If you are going to be shopping for yourself or others, then you should be sure to wear appropriate clothing. Comfortable slip on shoes will keep you on your feet longer, and also make trying on other shoes or clothing easier. Likewise, a button down shirt will allow you to try on clothes without messing up your hair and makeup.
Whenever possible, shop alone, but do so with a plan and a budget. Shopping alone will prevent any unnecessary influence that would convince you to go for a sale or get that cute skirt. When you shop alone you will be less distracted. You can always call up that friend on the phone if you need input, but better to let your budget and your shopping plan do most of the talking while you are in the actual stores.
2. Thrift store shopping tips.
If you have crafting or sewing skills, look at things creatively. You never know what might be upgraded with a little effort! You should also carefully inspect any items before you purchase them to see if there are stains, or damage. Many thrift stores only take cash, so be sure to bring cash. Also, many thrift stores do not have a dressing room. If you wear tight fitting clothing, you can try on some items anyway, despite the lack of privacy.
3. Holiday shopping tips.
There are few things more taxing than having to carry around your winter coat in a mall, juggling bags, and trying to also select new gifts. If you arrive at the mall early you will be able to get a better parking spot, and be able to leave your coat in the car altogether. While you are emulating the early bird and arriving early in the day, you could also start your holiday shopping early in the year as well. If you wait until the last minute you will be at the mercy of the outlet stores and malls when it comes to price and selection.
As early in the year as you possibly can, make a list of what you would like to get your friends and family, and determine a budget. Note that 65 percent of coworkers say they are happy with a gift card, but 74 percent of spouses feel exactly the opposite. This year, when you browse your favorite outlet stores, malls, and thrift stores, remember these tips. You will have a more enjoyable time, and your wallet will thank you for your smart shopping.
I think these are good tips, but I would be surprised that anyone ever takes such good advice.
