Moving House Without Hassle

House moving lists

Before you get very far in planning to move, you should come up with a good moving house check list. This will help alleviate the future stress of trying to properly pack and move. Using a check list for moving also insures that you do not forget some critical steps that will only make it harder once you reach your destination.

First, whether you have contacted the movers or not, you need to start thinking about the logistics of your move. Your moving checklist needs to have tasks broken down based on how close you are to the final move day. If you have an ordered moving house check list, you will be less likely to forget anything and more likely to find things when you need them.

First, as part of your moving house check list, begin to identify the limited items that you will need up until the last day of your move. You might even have a task on the moving house check list for labeling these last to pack items. On the other end of the spectrum, you can begin to identify things you can pack immediately.

Before you pack too much, you may want to consider what items from your moving house check list can be sold, donated or just thrown out instead of packing little used or little needed items. That task alone can save you money if you are paying moving services to complete the move. Even if not, you will not have to find new storage space for these underused or forgotten items.

Another critical component of the moving house check list is the logistical details around utilities. When you begin to create a timeline, you can start to schedule the cutover of your electrical, internet and various other services. Using a moving house check list means you will be able to schedule new services without a gap in coverage.

Finally, use your moving house check list to help organize your items. You can make notes of what items are packed in which boxes, or what items can be left in boxes for awhile as you acclimate to a new residence. However you decide to pack up, make sure your moving house check list works for your individual situation. More on this.

I love checklists…I may as well integrate the granddaddy of all lists into my upcoming move. It will at least keep me focused.

I try not to overuse any kind of checklist, but I definitely see the value in knowing when to cutover utilities, etc.
