Family photographs are a great way to capture the memories that you do not want to forget. Sometimes, people will go to family portrait photographers and others who specialize in producing displays of the entire family. The best family photographer will frequently have a reputation that proceeds him, if not through the photography itself then through word of mouth from other family friends who will recommend him.
There are certain tropes that accompany every type of photography. For example, in family photographs, it is common to try to capture the smallness of a baby by photographing them without their clothes on. Of course, there are millions of photos taken every two minutes. In fact, today, when everyone is armed with a mobile phone that is able to take pictures that are of higher quality than even the best consumer camera in 1960, we take more photographs in 2 minutes than were taken throughout the entire 19th century.
Of course, the experience of photographs has changed quite a bit. It used to be that the size of a photograph was important, but today we tend to experience photos on our mobile phone and we rarely ever print them out. Gone are the days when people felt the need to print the largest photograph in the world, which at this point is the 11 by 32 foot portrait of the control tower and the runaway at the US Marine Corps Air Station in Orange County California.
There are other statistics that are impressive when it comes to photography. Who would have thought that a rare 1923 Leica camera could have been sold for 2.8 million USD or that the largest lens ever would weigh more than 550 lbs and have a range of 1500 mm, for instance? But for most people, photography is about the picture itself, not the camera behind the picture and, since many photographers have the best technology available and are capable of making an excellent portrait which can be available within a day or two, there are plenty of opportunities for those who want to see themselves photographed and know what their world looks like through the camera’s eye.
